Our CT Scan Services
We offer CT scans from a range of locations to both NHS and Private Patients.
A CT was previously referred to as a CAT scan although the two are exactly the same.
Our team are experts in their field, with all of our scans being reported by UK-based FRCR accredited Radiologists working within their sub-speciality areas of interest.
We also perform and report both cardiac and virtual colonography CT examinations.
What is a CT Scan?
The CT scanner is a large machine through which you will pass on a moving bed. The scanner uses X-rays and a powerful computer to take thin slice images of your body. These highly detailed images allow your medical team to help you make informed decisions.
Unlike the MRI Scanner, the hole in the middle of the CT Scanner is much larger and the tube through which you pass is much shorter. Usually you can see out of either one side or the other of the scanner and therefore it is less of a problem if you feel claustrophobic.
CT scanning is becoming used increasingly throughout radiology for investigating the whole of the body. It is particularly good at looking at areas that may contain gas (like the bowel) that cannot be looked at with ultrasound. It acquires its pictures much more rapidly than MRI and is much more available. The choice of CT or MRI depends on the questions your doctor is trying to answer.
